Lou Kerley

Senior Training and Practice Development Officer

Lou (she/they) is a Senior Training and Practice Development Officer at CFRE. With a clinical background in occupational therapy, Lou has experience applying the principles of trauma-informed care, whole-of-family care, and self-advocacy through her work with children and families as well as adults with complex/multiple disabilities.

As a trainer, Lou is passionate about facilitating learning in a way that is accessible, engaging, and inclusive. Lou has led and supported a diverse range of projects designed to improve practice and facilitate change in various areas, including mental health, trauma-informed practice, family violence, LGBTIQA+ and queer practice, disability services, and family services.

Lou completed her PhD in the areas of childhood trauma, attachment, sensory processing and psychophysiology. She brings a strong publication history and knowledge of knowledge translation from diverse projects at The University of Queensland, Central Queensland University and the University of the Sunshine Coast. Lou is passionate about applying an intersectional lens to all areas of her work and seeks to drive change that addresses the harms of unequal power structures and systemic discrimination.
